Scrabo Striders – Run The Runways 5k
Julie McKimm and Elaine Weston were taking part in the Run the Runways 5k at Newtownards Airport on Friday night. A flat race but absolutely no cover from the wind on the runways, but I’m sure the weather on Friday night was fantastic for it. More importantly there’s a great feast at the end of this race if I remember right from last year’s club championship!
Julie McKimm – 21.47
Elaine Weston – 25.22
Newcastle Athletic Club – Slieve Donard Race
A technically challenging race which in addition to good levels of fitness requires some navigational skills as the route isn’t marked. Great weather on the day in Newcastle (possibly too hot for me though) for the 79th edition of Ireland’s oldest mountain race. Well done to Thomas Parkins for taking part in this one.
Thomas Parkins – 1.25.50
St Mary’s Marist 5k Run
The flat and fast annual St Mary’s Marist 5k Run was also on Friday. This event partners with a charity each year, with this year’s charity being Aoibheann’s Pink Tie who help and offer practical support to the families of children diagnosed with cancer and who are attending St John’s Oncology Ward in Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital. A great cause. Brian Todd was representing OAC running a fantastic time, well done Brian.
Brian Todd – 23.50
We Run Wild Castle 2 Castle
Michael O’Donoghue was taking part in the We Run Wild Castle 2 Castle Marathon event. This event starts from Belfast Castle running to Carrickfergus Castle covering a mix of terrain including trail, road, grass and forest track. The Ultra option started in Carrickfergus, running to Belfast Castle and then back to Carrickfergus. Surprisingly Michael opted just to complete the Marathon on this occasion.
Michael O’Donoghue – 6.28.54
Parkrun Report
11/05/2024
Lots of parkrun tourism this weekend with five of us visiting new locations; Verity Cornford at Amager Strandpark in Copenhagen, Keith Weir at Holy Cross College, Eleanor Acheson at Greenfield Valley, and Andy and Catherine McIntyre at Montalto Estate as they maintain their 100% Northern Irish parkrun record. Verity has the most unique locations from these folks with Amager Strandpark being her 53rd.
We also have some runners hitting fine running form with Jean Stone running her quickest Enniskillen parkrun since 2018, and Jenny Powell running her quickest Stormont parkrun since 2017.
Well done everyone!
