Ards 5 Miles

Before the summer weather abandoned us there was another scorcher on Friday night as three OACers took part in the Scrabo Striders 5 mile race. The race started at Londonderry Park, before going out along the Portaferry Road, up the hills of Finlay’s Road and down the Bowtown Road before finishing back in Londonderry Park. Congrats everyone for completing the race on a very very warm evening, and thanks to Eric Fairfield and Heather Flint for their support and photos.

Colin Simpson – 38.56
Elaine Weston – 43.43
Elaine Bates – 45.42

Abi’s Butterfly Breeze Portaferry 10k

Brian Todd and Elaine Weston made the trip to Portaferry for a 10k on Sunday. There was a fantastic turnout for this race which is for a great cause, with the money raised being used to help support Bright Future, Inspire’s new counselling service for young people.

Well done to you both on another hot day – extra well done to you Elaine for doing 2 races over the weekend.

Brian Todd – 47.49
Elaine Weston – 54.53

Parkrun Report

09/09/23

Only a couple of our members exploring new parkrun locations last weekend as Emily Paisley and Lisa Fleming travelled to Dunleath Playing Fields. That is their 23rd and 30th parkrun locations respectively.

The big parkrun news this week though was Alison Canning reaching her 250th parkrun. Alison’s best time was in 2019 when she ran a 21.54 parkrun at Lower Drummans – with an age grade score of 70.78% – and her best ever position was in 2020 at Castleblayney when she finished 6th with a time of 23.24. Alison also has 231 volunteer credits giving her a volunteer ratio of 92%, such commitment! Well done on reaching the 250 milestone Alison, I hope there was some well earned cake waiting for you at the finish line.
