Laganside 10k

Only a couple of events featuring OACers this weekend, but we had a great turnout at the Laganside 10k on Sunday. It was an absolute scorcher on Sunday so very well done to everyone that took part – great running in tough conditions!

Congratulations to Danny Bradley on his 4th place finish and winning the M35 age category, and a big thank you to those who came down to support and take photos.

Mourne Triathlon

A huge congratulations to four of the OAC women at the weekend who were taking part in their first triathlon at Olympian Triathlon Belfast’s Mourne Triathlon on Saturday. This is a sprint distance triathlon comprising of a 750m swim in Castlewellan Lake, followed by an out and back 20km cycle and finally a 5km run around the lake. Having completed the Try a Tri programme Jill Holland, Lisa Fleming, Selina Myles and Sharon Howe achieved brilliant results at their first triathlon, made even more impressive by the fact that they all took part in the Loch Ness 24 hour relay last weekend.

Special mention also to Anne Devlin and Stephen Craig for their volunteering roles and to Adrienne Savage and Emily Paisley for their support.

Jill Holland – 1.53.20 (swim 23.30, cycle 57.15, run 28.21)
Lisa Fleming – 1.56.29 (swim 23.33, cycle 57.07, run 31.05)
Selina Myles – 1.58.37 (swim 24.55, cycle 58.03, run 30.21)
Sharon Howe – 2.09.57 (swim 28.49, cycle 1.04.22, run 32.09)

Parkrun Report

02/09/23

Five OACers visited new parkrun locations at the weekend. Marcia Sharkey attended Highbury Fields, Adrienne Savage and Emily Paisley took advantage of being in Castlewellan for the triathlon and did the parkrun while there, and Andy and Catherine McIntyre completed their quest of doing every parkrun in Northern Ireland with a trip to Derry City. Amazing achievement, well done to you both.

Elsewhere Andy Tees was getting a first place finish at Stormont with a time of 17.03, just 4 seconds ahead of 2nd place. Great running Andy, well done.
