Weekly Report – 21st August-27th August 2023

Loch Ness 24

It was a big weekend for six of the OAC women as they took part in the 24 hour relay trail race on the banks of the Loch. Even though the weather was awful, and the course was a tough one with lots of hills and mud they still completed 28 loops of Loch Ness over the day totalling 196km or 121 miles. A brilliant achievement, you’ve done the club proud – even if there were no Nessie sightings.

Massive congratulations to Emily Paisley, Jill Holland, Judith McCann, Selina Myles, Lisa Fleming and Sharon Howe.

Portrush 5 Mile Road Race

Colin Simpson was representing the club at the Portrush 5 Mile Road Race which takes runners along the West Promenade and up the Blackrock Hill where they run to a turnaround point on the road to Portstewart before returning the same way. Well done Colin, great running.

Colin Simpson – 38.44

Strangford Festival

Elaine Weston and Brian Todd were at the Strangford Festival taking part in the 5k and 10k respectively. These races include road and trail, starting and finishing in Strangford Village and running through the grounds of Castleward Estate. Well done to you both.

Antrim Coast Half Marathon

This half-marathon is one of the fastest half-marathons in the world with stunning scenery as well as being approved by World Athletics as an Elite Event. Starting at the beginning of the Antrim Coast Road, the course passes through Larne Harbour and Larne town itself before moving back onto the coast for an out and back route. Danny Bradley was representing OAC and finished in 39th place, great running!

Parkrun Report

26/08/23

There were five of us engaging in some parkrun tourism at the weekend visiting new locations; Ali McConnell at Falcarragh, Elaine Bates at Hillsborough Forest, Colin Simpson at Limepark Playing Fields, and Andrew and Catherine McIntyre at Holy Cross College. That’s Catherine’s 45th location, and one closer to her goal of having completed all the parkruns in Northern Ireland.

While they were there Andy managed to finish first, this is his 17th location where he has been first finisher in parkrun – I think that might be a club best! Please note that I have done minimal research before making this claim.

Great running everyone.
