Ards Half Marathon

It was a big Friday night for OAC with 16 of our members taking on the challenge of Ards Half Marathon as part of our club championship. It was a very warm night on a tough course but our finishing times were impressive nonetheless with Danny Bradley finishing in the top 10, Andy McIntyre in the top 20, Keith Weir in the top 30 and Edwina Ternan being 14th female finisher. The Metronome (Andrew Carson) also carried his 1.40 pacing duties out to near perfection coming in at 1.39.47.

Congratulations to everyone on some brilliant running and thanks to everyone who came out to cheer us on. Extra well done to Danny Bradley coming first in the M35 age category and Edwina Ternan coming second in the F35 age category.

Whitehead Pint and Pieathon

An event that many of us have been training for our entire lives took place on Saturday. Four miles, four pints and four pies. Michael O’Donoghue talked a good game at the Boundary Brewery 5k on Wednesday, fancying himself to win the event. Not leaving anything to chance he did some last-minute training after the 5k and had 4 pints – that’s dedication. He had to settle for 3rd place on the day though as it was another Orangegrover Keith Weir that came in first.

Well done to you both. It’s an honour to be in the presence of such great athletes.

We Run Wild Marathon

Michael O’Donoghue, with his third race in three days, took part in a We Run Wild Marathon in the mucky trails above Carrick. At one point during the race they had to stop to allow sheep to pass, but as you can imagine Michael wasn’t too worried about the time in this race after a busy weekend of running.

Michael O’Donoghue – 5.19.45

Parkrun Report

01/07/23

A slow news week at parkrun – obviously most of us were still recovering from the Friday night half-marathon. Verity Cornford and Ian Wilson ticked off new locations at Knockbracken Reservoir and Hafan Pwllheli which, I’m assuming, is in Wales.

Catherine McIntyre also visited a new location at Dungannon Park and bore witness to another bottling from Andrew McIntyre who once again finished 2nd, with a time of 18.50.
