Weekly Report – 5th June-11th June 2023

Mourne Way Marathon Events

The Mourne Way Marathon arrived onto the running calendar in 2009 as the first ever mass participation off road marathon in Ireland. A beautiful course covering different terrain from forest track to open mountain.

It was a seriously hot day on Saturday so really well done to everyone who took on the mountains in those conditions.

Massive congratulations to Andrew Tees winning the half-marathon, to Andrew McIntyre for his 4th place finish, and to Sarah Steer for finishing 3rd female in the full marathon. Don’t think I can remember a more successful event for Orangegrove!

Marathon

Sarah Steer – 5.00.11
Michael O’Donoghue – 5.49.52
Kerris Hamilton – 6.49.16
Sharon Howe – 6.49.16

Half-Marathon

Andrew Tees – 1.29.00
Andrew McIntyre – 1.36.16

Hill & Dale Series – Loughshannagh

Earlier in the week we had Newcastle AC’s Hill and Dale race at Loughshannagh. This is possibly one of the toughest races in the series, an anti-clockwise loop of 7km and nearly 600m of elevation from Spelga taking in tough climbs and descents of Slieve Muck, Doan, Slieve Loughshannagh and Ott Mountain. With the Mourne Way Marathon Events on the Saturday a lot of the usual Hill & Dale Series runners took a break – but not Andy Tees who finished in 3rd place. Two podiums in one week, not bad at all!

Andrew Tees – 44.05
Thomas Parkins – 1.01.41

Parkrun Report

10/06/23

Robin Montgomery took advantage of a trip to Cardiff to add another parkrun location to his list – taking him up to 19 locations overall.

The big news this weekend though was Danny Bradley turning it on at Victoria Park coming in as first finisher with a time of 16.29. Great running Danny!
