Weekly Report – 22nd May-28th May 2023

Newry 10k and Half Marathon

Last week’s highlight was the latest race in the Club Championship, the Newry 10k. Well done to everyone who took part, especially Danny Bradley for his 3rd place finish. Although three of us (Emily Paisley, Keith Weir and myself) all got our 10k PBs the race was far from easy. Scorching heat (at least 10 degrees Celsius) followed by nonstop headwinds after the 5k turning point meant that we all had to work hard.

Special mention for Michael O’Donoghue who couldn’t resist temptation and entered the half-marathon instead.

Both the male and female championship tables are very close – should be exciting to see how it plays out from here!

Hill & Dale Series – Luke’s

Thursday night also saw the latest race in the Hill & Dale Series. The Luke’s race is technically challenging with being more across rough terrain than on established mountain trails. The route crosses Trassey Track, heading to the summit of Slievenaglogh and from there a direct run to Luke’s Mountain before a choice of route back to the start. Well done to the OACers taking part, and especially to Andy Tees for coming in 2nd place overall – only 20 seconds off the winning time!

Andrew Tees – 38.35
Sarah Steer – 1.00.59
Kerris Hamilton – 1.09.44
Emily Paisley – 1.14.20
Sharon Howe – 1.18.01

Parkrun Report

27/05/23

There was the usual parkrunning on Saturday morning, but no first-place finishes or personal bests for any of our members. Obviously, we were all saving our strength for the Newry 10k on Sunday.

Andrew McIntyre and Emily Paisley travelled to new parkrun locations (Omagh and Portrush), with Andrew finishing in 2nd place for the second week in a row – unlucky!

Hopefully the parkrun Gods will be more generous with us next week.
