Newtownards Running the Runways 5k

A great turnout in Newtownards for our latest Club Championship race, it was a tough enough 5k as the runways left us very exposed to the wind. I think we were all expecting it to be a walk in the park with the route being completely flat but it definitely turned out to be harder than expected with the nonstop headwinds. We still got some fantastic results though – especially Danny Bradley who not only finished 2nd overall in the 10k race but also had a fast enough 5k split to claim the 20 club championship points on offer, such a show off! Special thanks to Ali McConnell as well for coming down to support.

As well as the results I’ve included a table showing the top 5 in the club championship tables – beginning to look very interesting now!

Hill & Dale Series – Race 4 – Binnian

We also had the Hill & Dale series runners descend on Carrick Little for the Binnian race. Well done to the brave OAC three that faced the heavy rain and strong winds to get to the 750 metre summit.

Thomas Parkins – 37.23
Kerris Hamilton – 46.26
Sharon Howe – 52.53

Parkrun Report

06/05/23

There was also the usual parkrunning on Saturday morning.

The highlight this week was Keith Weir ticking off a new parkrun location in Glasgow Ruchill (his 33rd overall), and winning it as well with a time of 19.02. 2nd place was only 7 seconds behind so it must have been a real battle – great running!

Closer to home, well done to Andrew Carson getting his quickest ever time at Ormeau – 18.45. I see that not too far behind him was David Montgomery so we can assume a lesson was handed out there – shame there were no club championship points on offer. Elsewhere, Alison Hall-Thompson also visited a new parkrun location as she travelled to Rostrevor parkrun for the first time, her 10th parkrun location.
