Weekly Report – 17th April-23rd April 2023

London Marathon

16 weeks of hard work certainly paid off for the OAC crew in London with great times for everyone that was running, but especially for Andrew Carson and David Montgomery who got Marathon PBs. The results are below and congratulations to everyone running – you all did great and are a credit to the club.

Now for a well-deserved rest – apart from for Danny, Andrew, David and Robin who all have entries for this weekend’s Belfast Marathon.

Danny Bradley – 2.48.35
Andrew Carson – 2.50.13
David Montgomery – 3.04.19
Robin Montgomery – 3.05.19
Alison Canning – 4.02.52
Kimberley Reynolds – 4.02.52
Rodney Corrigan – 4.10.06

Madrid Rock ’n’ Roll Marathon/Half-Marathon

Michael O’Donoghue and Selina Myles made the trip to Madrid to take part in what appears to be the last Rock ‘n’ Roll event in Europe. This was a pretty high profile event with a number of bands playing along the course. A tough one though as there’s a lot of climbing on the route and the temperature reached the high 20s. Great job folks!

Selina Myles – 2.06.53

Michael O’Donoghue – 4.15.27

Hill & Dale Series – Race 2 – Tollymore

Another Hill & Dale and another good turnout for Orangegrove AC as five of us travelled to Tollymore for 4.2 miles of running and the pretty standard 1200 feet of climbing. Two races of the series down, only eight left for anyone considering a clean sweep!

Thomas Parkins – 40.45
Kerris Hamilton – 56.15
Emily Paisley – 58.35
Sharon Howe – 59.39
Judith McCann – 1.00.17

Wicklow Glacier Lakes

Last out of the races this week but certainly not least Andrew Tees was in Wicklow for a beast of a race that’s 43km and has almost 6000 feet of climbing. NIMRA have rated in a 10 on their difficulty scale which comes with the description “extreme” – I’ll take their word for it. Not only did Andy take part, he went and won it by over 40 minutes! Great running, I’d like to see if these talents translate to a road marathon though!

Andrew Tees – 4.44.00

Parkrun Report

22/04/23

This Saturday Danny Bradley, Andrew Carson and myself took advantage of being in London for the marathon to tick off another parkrun location at Beckton. Danny leads the way out of us with this being his 20th different location – he is a pilot to be fair.

Elsewhere Elaine Bates ran her best ever time at Enniskillen parkrun doing it in 27.10, 45 seconds quicker than her last pb there – well done Elaine, great running!

Another week, another big milestone as this Saturday Verity Cornford did her 250th parkrun. Her best time was in 2017 when she ran a 23.44 parkrun in Victoria Park, but her best age-graded time was just last year at Sixmilewater (24.01 with an age grade of 65.51%). Verity’s best position so far is a 9th place finish at Derrynoid Forest in 2022. Well done Verity, a great achievement getting to 250!
