Rabbit Run Half-Marathon and Marathon

Heather Shanks-Miller and Michael O’Donoghue both attended the Rabbit Run on Saturday the 4th. Heather running the half-marathon and Michael doing (this basically goes without saying) the full marathon. This was a new course for this race which involved 2 laps of Woodburn Forest in Carrickfergus – the route follows the trails through the forestry around the Woodburn reservoirs and provides some beautiful views over Belfast Lough. With only 2 miles of the course on road, definitely one for trail-running enthusiasts. Although undulating it mustn’t have been too bad as MOD joined us for the 18 mile long run the next morning.

Drum Manor 10k

Elsewhere, at the penultimate race in the Sperrin Harriers Winter Trail Series, Alan Martin and Ian Wilson slogged round a very hilly course. In addition the course was, in Ian’s words, “painfully extended” when a runner in front took a wrong turn resulting in him having to run an extra kilometre around the lake to re-join the race. We’ve all been there.
