Between the Bridges 5k

On 21st June part of the Westlink was closed for the Between the Bridges 5k starting at the Park centre in West Belfast before heading towards the centre and back. The prospect of a reasonably flat and fast 5k on a special occasion such as this brought out a number of NI’s shorter distance specialists.

There were over 600 runners in this event and amongst them were 5 OAC athletes eager to try out their new club vests in the field. Our athletes ran well on the day, though the jury is out whether the vests made the difference!

John Craig was 2nd place overall with a time of 16m20s, only 4 seconds behind Phillip Goss from North Belfast Harriers. He also managed to set a new 5k club record. Joe Craney was 10th overall with a time of 17m59s.

Lyndsey Pronger was 4th lady with a time of 20m15s. This was a new 5k club record for the ladies.

Michael O’Donoghue finished in 21m08s, and the ever improving Alan Montgomery was soon behind him with a PB of 21m38s.

5k races as opposed to Parkruns don’t come around very much in comparison to 10k’s, so it was good to make use of them and get some new club records and PB’s! Well done everyone.
