Les Jones Memorial 10k

215 runners participated in this year’s Les Jones Memorial 10k on Friday evening. The course which starts and finishes on the Mary Peters Track, encompasses the towpath and includes an energy sapping hill at Malone House. The circular nature of the route meant that the MC at the MPT could be heard along a large part of the course which to those not in the know (including myself) gave the impression that the end was just around the corner………….it wasn’t!

Brendan Teer (East Down AC) romped home first with a time of 33:10, first lady was Teresa Duffy (Unattached) who completed the course in 39mins 29 seconds – 10 seconds behind our very own Robin Montgomery who crossed the line in 22nd place. Andy McIntyre wasn’t far behind, finishing 26th with a time of 39:19 – the power nap appears to have done the trick.

Hot on Andy’s heels were Des Fahy (40:52), Michael O’Donoghue (45:30) and Emma McWilliams (48:14).

The perfect storm of quickly completing a last minute entry form and my bad hand writing appears to have resulted in the creation of a brand new club – C.A.C. I was delighted to be the club’s fastest participant finishing the 10k course in 46:42 – a new club record! Thanks to the organisers for what was a tough, rain swept but very enjoyable race.
