Weekly Report – 6th March-12th March 2023

Coleraine Campus 5k

Brian Todd enjoyed an atmospheric night time run at NUU Coleraine on Friday evening. The elite race was won by Nick Griggs with a time of 14.06, but I’m sure Brian would give him a run for his money in the age-grading.

Brian Todd – 22.51

Walled City 10 Mile Road Race

Andy (Big Mac) McIntyre and David Doey were in Derry for the 10 miler – Andy finished in 8th place out of 1500 runners and David managed a PB! Well done folks – congratulations to you both! Unfortunately it marks David’s last run in the Orangegrove vest after 6 great years with the club as he has relocated to the North Coast.

We wish you all the best David and thank you for all the support you offered over the years – hopefully it won’t be too long before our paths cross again.

Andy McIntyre – 56.34

David Doey – 1.27.17

Glenariff Mountain Race

On Saturday Michael O’Donoghue, Sarah Steer and Andrew Tees made the trip to Waterfoot for 6 miles of running and over 1,000 feet of climbing in Glenariff where Andy came in 5th, just 35 seconds behind the winner! Great effort Andy (I’m looking the other way on the fact that BARF NI is listed as your club in the results).

Andy Tees – 47.11

Michael O’Donoghue – 1.08.33

Sarah Steer – 1.16.38

This race is also known as the “Spud Run” as a result of the continuing sponsorship by Glens of Antrim Potatoes, who reward each runner for their hard work with a big bag of spuds. Hopefully the Orangegrove runners taking part will use the spuds to carb load for the next race whenever that is…

Portadown Marathon

…On Sunday Michael O’Donoghue was in Portadown doing his contractually obliged monthly marathon. He let us know that it was pretty great even though they made it slightly harder than last time by including a new walkway section near Gilford. A well-organised race with lots of water/gel stops and (a huge positive here) there were chips at the end. From looking at the results the majority of people chose to do the half-marathon rather than the full – amateurs! Congrats on another marathon MOD.

Michael O’Donoghue – 3.45.27

Jimmy’s 10k

Andrew Carson booked in the trip to Downpatrick for Jimmy’s 10k as soon as the new fast course without the usual Cathedral hill was announced. Great work on a 10k PB, not a bad time at all and I’m sure you’ll break that 37 minute barrier some day!

Andrew Carson – 37.08

Parkrun Report

11/03/23

Only 8 members took part in parkrun this weekend as a result of many parkruns being cancelled due to the icy weather.

Fair play to Colin Simpson and Kimberley Reynolds taking this opportunity to travel to Crawfordsburn and doing a new parkrun location – that’s their 27th and 25th parkrun location respectively.

I’m assuming most other usual parkrunners, like myself, took the opportunity to have a lie in.
