Club Report for Week Ending Saturday 13th January 2018

By Tim Robinson

This 26 Extreme event is one of a series. The route is two laps of the lake, with a wee extra bit each lap – the old Winter Race Series 5k loop twice. The Castlewellan 10k promised to be a fast-paced, and enjoyable evening out.

Alison Hall-Thompson and Sarah Wilson represented the Club, sharing a time of 1:19:20.

BALINA HALF MARATHON, World Half Marathon Day, 13th January

A new Club record, and the first of 2018, goes to Lyndsey Tyro who took part in the Ballina World Half Marathon Day Event, smashing her half marathon PB and coming in as first woman.

The new Ladies Half Marathon record now stands at 1:26:34, marking an improvement of almost 3 minutes.

Saturday saw another of Orangegrove’s big road trips. The Mid Ulster Sports Arena has been a destination before and, from previous experience, some were boarding the coach with a little trepidation. Birthday celebrations for our Chairman, Robin Montgomery, provided a pleasant distraction.

Conditions were challenging, and the big hill was still there, but at least there wasn’t any snow this year. While there has been some debate in the press recently regarding whether there should be differing race distances for men and women, I have not heard any complaints regarding the difference on Saturday.

Edwina achieved an excellent 11th place.
