Glenariff Mountain Race

Taking place on Saturday 11th March, The Glenariff Mountain Race is the first race of the 2017 Podium4Sport NIMRA Championship. A 4kg bag of Antrim potatoes for every runner gives this race it’s affectionate nickname “The Potato Race”.

Covering a distance of 5.9 miles and with an ascent of 370m it’s one of the shorter races in the NIMRA championship. Seasoned fell runners Michael O’Donoghue and Sharon Dickenson were the two OAC athletes in attendance and conditions were a balmy 15 degrees according to Sharon.

Both ran well with Sharon finishing in a time of 1:25:05 and Michael in 1:08:49, which was even more impressive given that he forgot to pack his fell shoes. The race was won by William McKee (Mourne Runners 43:49) and Esther Dickson (Newry AC 52:21).
