Comber Cup XC

As our most local XC event and the second race in the ANI XC league, we were hopeful for a big turnout from OAC, and we weren’t disappointed.

Our minis and juniors were first off. In the primary school race, despite being sent in the wrong direction by a marshal, Jacob was 1st boy, Beth, Olivia and Sam also raced. Iseult, Reegan and Matthew raced in the U13, with Rory, Aaron and Adam in the U15. No results available yet for these races but we will add them in when available. Well done to all minis and juniors who raced and thanks for staying around and cheering on the seniors in their events.

Next up were the ladies and the M60+ men, racing over a distance of 6k. We had 15 ladies representing us, a great turn out and several trying out the terrain for the first time, and hopefully not their last.

Results are as follows….

Julie McKimm 28.47
Edwina Florence 28.53
Claire Kelleher 30.50
Emma McWilliams 31.05

Anna Rankin 34.40

The ladies race was won by NDAC’s Jessica Craig in 23.15 and her club won the John McKeag cup for first team. In the M60 race, Brian Todd finished in 27.41 and Reg Sanlon in 32.57.

The last race of the day is the Comber Cup, 8k in distance, which is 4 loops of the new ‘improved’ course. Results are:

Andy McIntyre 31.02
Paul Tyro 32.57
Des Fahy 33.13
Michael Broadhead 34.10

North Belfast Harriers NI international athlete Mark McKinstry won the Men’s race in 26.26, helping his club to win the Comber Cup.

Afterwards we were treated to excellent Ballydrain Hospitality. Well done to all who ran, hopefully we will have similar numbers for the next XC event (Ballyclare, 5th November, just in case anyone didn’t know). Thanks to those who came to cheer, take photos, bring gazebo, bake buns etc. We look forward to ANI publishing updated league tables…there’s a Titanic Trophy at stake!!!
