Groomsport 10k & Half Marathon

This was the 2nd time this event, organised by Community Multisport and the penultimate event of the Pure Running Half Marathon Series, was held.  The event attracted over 300 runners for the 2 races in total and a dozen OAC athletes.  The 10k consisted of a mixture of small winding country roads and a stretch along the coast between Groomsport and Donaghadee.  The Half Marathon was 2 laps.  It wouldn’t be considered a flat course, but there were several PB’s on the day and some great results.

In the Half Marathon, Joe Craney got a PB and was 2nd in the event with a time of 1h18m21s, only 9 seconds behind Willowfield athlete David Proctor. Paul Tyro was second OAC runner through with a time of 1h25m35s and Andy McIntryre 3rd with a time of 1h30m01s.  Michael O’Donoghue got a PB with a time of 1h42m22s.

Remaining HM results were:

Catherine Fearon 2h13m17s
Darren Moffett 2h23m35s
Paul Edgar 2h23m36s

In the 10k Jacqui Maxwell was declared 3rd lady at the finish with a time of 48m28s, and received a prize accordingly, but the chip results later showed her to be 4th.  Whatever the case, some great running!  Alan Montgomery and Verity Cornford finished soon after with times of 50m56s and 51m12s.  Also running were Lisa Fleming (52m08s) Eleanor Acheson (58m08s)

In the Half Marathon Series Andy McIntyre and Catherine Fearon have now done 6 races each and will have placings in the overall results.  Darren Moffett and Paul Edgar have done 9 out of the 10 events with only Dambusters in the Silent Valley to do.
