Jimmy’s 10k Road Race

On Sunday 16th March the club managed to get 22 athletes out for NI race calendar mainstay, the Jimmy’s 10k in Downpatrick, making us one of the best represented clubs at the event behind some of the large Co Down ones. Its a popular event which attracts good quality competition and this year was a hotly contested event between 2 previous winners, Joe McAllister and Eddie McGinley.

In part due to its OAC Club Championship status there wasn’t much holding back from participating athletes either.

John Craig came overall 15th in the race, getting just under the 36 minute mark. Thomas Leitch came 3rd in his age category on 37m35s. Stephen Orr and Joe Craney continued their great form finishing at 41m37s and 41m39s.

Brian Todd, who’s been putting the miles in this year finished in 44m01s chip time and grabbed 3rd place in age category.

First lady through was Joanne Patterson at 46m04s with Rachel Lyle a minute later at 47m16s.

Hosts East Down AC spared no effort for this event with great marshalling, great shirt and medal along with an incredibly lavish feast afterwards.  The event is consistently one of the best 10k’s around
