Brooks Armagh International Road Race

4 OAC athletes made their way for this prestigious event in The Mall area of Armagh City. For the number of athletes and the high quality of the field they picked up a decent haul of category wins and prizes.  All athletes did the Open 3k races as opposed to the elite 5k race which had a star studded line-up from the likes of Britain, Poland and the USA.  The breakneck pace of a 3k race isn’t a distance that our athletes would be as specialised in as 5k’s or longer but we did well.  In the men’s 3k Brian Todd finished with a great time of 11m53s and coming 4th in his age category.  In the ladies 3k Elizabeth Leitch did superbly with a time of 12m42s coming 2nd in her age category and winning a cash prize and some lovely trainers.  It was also a 3000m PB.  Only a second behind Liz was Joy McAleer who also came second in her age category.  Jacqui Maxwell wasn’t far behind with a time of 13m08s.

Considering the glowing praise by many commentators for the organisation, spectacle and hospitality of this long running race, we should definitely make a return next year.
